While Kurt, the Fall City Rat Hunter, used an M-1 Carbine to BLAST away at rats, Stephen was just as successful with a Winchester 22 as some husband & wife pacifist tree-hugger friends enlisted his support to defend their newborn twins.

Thanks for posting your site. Hope I can share my rat story with your readers.

Years ago while sharing a classic, Spanish villa-style home with a family in Southern California I was called upon to defend the owners' newborn twins from a pack of rats which had taken up residence within the thick fauxdobe walls. The husand and wife were dyed-in-the-wool, pacifist, tree huggers and had never owned or shot a firearm in their entire lives.

I learned there's one thing that will make a killer out of a love child: rats! Add to the mix newborn twin babies along with the protective instincts of a first-time mother and you create a cold-blooded "kill'em all" look unparalled in the known universe.

Momma got one glimpse of one large rat and came to me, the Texas-born hunter/renter, with a clear mandate: KILL THEM AND PROTECT MY BABIES. I knew it was my duty to oblige her. But since I didn't own a gun at the time, I visited another good friend and expatriot Texan who loaned me a classic Winchester .22 pump known commonly as a "gallery gun", the kind you shoot paper targets with at the county fair booth.

I sat in the garage for two nights learning the rats' routine before drinking a mug of Celebese coffee and loading the Winchester for the massacre. Not unlike a county fair shooting gallery, one by one, they'd make their way out of a hole in the wall, across a waterpipe and into a golf bag.

I sat astraddle a Honda motocycle, nightlight strapped on with a headband and waited for the nightly procession. Seven .22 shorts, seven shots, seven dead rats. Sometimes a man's just gotta do what a man's gotta do.

P.S. Our local TV station reported that Rats Overrun neighborhood in Orange County" with rats so big they could pick a fight with a dog"

The Fall City Rat Hunter Replies:
No sense in wasting any ammo on rat vermin. Nice Shooting Doc and well done.

P.S. We'd love a picture of your shooting position.
